About

I'm José Alvarez Cabrera. I'm a software engineer who likes building complete systems.

Most of my work has come from following a problem past the edge of whatever I already knew. I've built educational games in Unity, a production mobile app that reached more than 30,000 downloads, an interactive explainer of U.S. immigration law for the Cato Institute, cloud workflows around physics-informed neural networks, and an AI system that turns a sentence into a rendered mathematical animation.

None of that was one discipline. It meant C# one year and PyTorch the next, graph databases for one project and render queues for another. I studied at Minerva University, which is probably where the habit of moving between fields stopped feeling unusual to me.

I'm the creator of Mathify, a platform that generates math and physics animations from natural language and renders them in the cloud. It's the clearest example of how I like to work: an unusual idea, a generation pipeline, real infrastructure behind it, and a product around it that someone can actually use.

I also spend time explaining this kind of work — a long-form NVIDIA Modulus course on physics-informed neural networks, a CFD solver written from scratch in Python, a walk through the synthetic control method in R. Teaching something is a good test of whether you understand it.

The common thread isn't a particular framework. It's that I like taking complicated ideas and making them work.
